San Antonio

Today was the only day that we had a schedule to keep. We needed to be in SA before 1 PM so that Jenny could accompany Larson to Jerome's birthday party. We got up at 6, broke camp in a torrential rain, drove to the dump station and dumped the tanks in what was becoming a Biblical flood. We got to the locked park gate before it was unlocked and had to wait. We drove through 8 inches of rising water on the park exist road. We finally got on I 10 and made it through Houston without being able to see the traffic lane lines due to the deluge. Jenny called her dad outside of Houston to give him an ETA and to confirm the birthday party. Turns out the party is tomorrow. Did someone say bourbon? Here's Larson watching the Spurs 2nd round basketball game.

Village Creek State Park TX

This place is just outside of Lumberton which is near Beaumont. We could have made San Antonio today but it would have been a long day. Yesterday was a long day and I didn't feel compelled to make it two in a row. This park has a lot of trails but all of them are flooded and consequently closed. After lunch we took the bikes to a unit of The Big Thicket National Preserve and did a 2 hour ride. The ranger at this park drew us a map of where we could ride at the Preserve. It worked out, but we were a little leary of her directions. Tomorrow will be San Antonio. We will be there for several days.

Cajun Palms RV park

I have no idea what a 'Cajun Palm' is. I was an Ag major and I took "woody ornament plants" as a sophomore and I  sure don't remember that tree. We are in Breaux Bridge Louisiana. This place has 300 campsites, a Waterpark, a putt putt golf course, a fishing pond and a restaurant.  It was a pretty long day. Nearly 7 hours. We went through Atlanta on I 85. That place is worse than Houston and that's saying a lot. We have decided to have a short day tomorrow so we will stop short of Houston. It was raining all afternoon so I didn't take any pics. The 4th hole of the golf course has a wind mill that was worth a picture but alas it was too wet to get out.

Chewacla State Park Alabama

This park is in Auburn. It seems to me that the entire park is dedicated to mountain biking. The map of the park looks like a spider web of trails. It easy to get lost if your are navigating using a map like that. I was lost within minutes. My GPS got me back to the MP. Jenny rode around with me after I found my way back. There is a dirt jump course and this thing. It is a bike roller-coaster I think. I rode it a couple of times  but I didn't want to press my luck. Tomorrow should be Louisiana.

Leaving Tega Cay tomorrow

We had a good visit with Seth, Courtney and the girls, but sadly, we need to depart. Our plan this year is to go to California and see a few things I flew over in my previous life. We have the kayaks and the bikes so we will be looking for  opportunities to use them. Our plan is to be home before the 4th of July. I brought one of my extra special pickles for the girls to snack on after school. I am a very generous grandfather.

Tega Cay

We made it here unscathed. In a bizarre bit of serendipitous happenstance, Seth and Courtney left Charleston a little after we left Beaufort and they passed us on I 77 about 30 miles out. They met us at the KOA and gave us Aubrey so that Jenny could drive her to the 'American Girl' store that is located in a mall in Charlotte. I was very disappointed that the car was so loaded that there wasn't enough room for me to go. When I ask the twins to smile this is what I get now.

Beginning of Summer MP trip 2916

We actually begin tomorrow. We parked the MP behind the house so that we could get it loaded and get the fridge cold. I had a 30 amp plug installed on the side of the garage so that we would have power in these situations. I'm pretty sure Habersham doesn't allow RV overnight parking in the alleyways but I'm gambling that since today is Saturday I might not get caught. Seth and Courtney are visiting Lindsay and Jamie in Charleston. They apparently took the kids to the beach.
