Summer 2019 stats

We have safely arrived home. We were greeted by an abundance of overgrown everything. Weeds and overgrown shrubs have made our house look abandoned. Next summer we are going to have to hire a landscaper to take care of things. Now the numbers: We put 6226 miles on the MP2. 25 stops for gas. Prices ranged from $3.39 to $2.14. A little bit of trivia--the $2.14 was paid at the only Buc-ee's outside of Texas. It was on I-10 in Alabama. We transited through or stayed in 18 different states. We camped in 13 state parks, visited or camped in 3 National parks, 2 KOA's, 4 independent campgrounds and 2 Corp of engineers campgrounds. Another bit of trivia, the 3 fuel stops we made in the houseboat cost a whopping $1310.80. That must have been some really good gas. This trip is complete. The MP2 is comfortably parked in it's storage spot and we are trying to return the house to livability. Davejennyjournal is going dark for awhile.

Crooked river SP Georgia

We got on I-95 in Jacksonville and are now barely in Georgia. We have stayed in this park more often than any other park. It's pretty close to home and the campsites have sewer so that we can flush both tanks real well before we put the MP2 in storage. Today is the 62nd day on the road for us. I'll put together some statistics for the final post tomorrow.

Blackwater river SP

We are near Milton Fl. not far from I-10. No excitement today other than hitting Baton Rouge during the morning rush. We have been here maybe 3 times. We continue on I-10 until we hit I-95 tomorrow. We will spend the night in Georgia just a few hours from home. More tomorrow.

On the road home

We are a little east of Lafayette La. We left S.A. at 7 AM and as soon as we got on the loop we came to a complete stop. So much for leaving early. Our stay was productive. We saw all of Jenny's brothers and I had 2 good bike rides on the trails in McAllister park. Oh, and I spent some time with Alan & Donna. This place is a sauna. The humidity is in triple digits and the temp is pictured below. However, we are surrounded by cajun restaurants. We'll be in Florida tomorrow.

Seminole Canyon SP

This park is another one that's a usual stopover for us. It's on Hwy 90 near Comstock. I like Hwy 90 instead of I-10 because there is virtually no traffic. The park also has a terrific bike trail that follows the canyon rim. We have made it to San Antonio. I couldn't post at the park because our phones thought we were in Mexico and the parks wifi seemed to be hallucinating. We are parked in Jenny's dad's driveway and will be here until Monday.

Guadalupe Mountains NP

Jenny and I started coming here in 1984. A stop here is always on our itenerary when we take the southern route home.
This place is famous for its high winds. I had a short talk with a ranger after we arrived and he told me about a 105 mph gust in the spring that blew over a semi that was driving on Guadalupe Pass. The RV campground is just a parking lot. No electrics, water or sewer. There is no dump station. An overnight is all we'll do here. Tomorrow we move deeper into Texas and stay in another state park.

Last day in Santa Fe

I had a really fine birthday bike ride this morning. The trails I rode today weren't particularly difficult and they were extremely well marked. Since I was relatively sure my heart wasn't going to explode I was able to enjoy myself. For lunch, Rick and Chris Arkus (our friends from Habersham) took us out for a birthday lunch. Good food and a good time -- thank you Chris & Rick. We leave tomorrow. Our plan is to camp at The Guadalupe mountains NP. It will be a long day but we will be in Texas. We are headed home.

Santa Fe day 4

Today we visited a street in Santa Fe that is wall to wall art stores. Near the end of that street is one of the oldest restaurants in town. We looked at the art and ate in that restaurant. We returned to Jim & Anne's house, visited for a few hours and that was our day. They begin their drive home tomorrow, we are here one more day. I took a picture of the art store's sign wondering what magical realism is.

Still in Santa Fe

Jim and Anne fed us and our Habersham friends lunch yesterday. It ended up being a 7 hour, 4 wine bottle, gab fest. Jenny & I spent the night at the new house. This morning I rode some trails near the house and nearly croaked due to lack of oxygen. We returned to the MP2 because they have a hoity toity party to go to across their street. Tomorrow's plans are up in the air but I'm sure we will find a way to help support the local economy.

Santa Fe

We made it in abour 5 and 1/2 hours. After we got set up we headed up to Jim & Anne's house. They have fantastic views and pretty good wine. We headed downtown for Tapas and are now comfortably ensconced in the MP2.
