New River State Park

This is a weekend trip that I thought would be a good idea about 6 months ago. I reserved 2 campsites thinking the entire mob could get together for some canoeing on the New River. Jamie and Lindsay had to bow out because of some health issues with Jamie's mother. They are flying to New York. Seth and Courtney and his girls were able to come. On Saturday we did a 10 mile canoe trip down the river. Jenny and Courtney were in kayaks and Seth and I had the girls in 2 canoes. The 10 miles took us about 4 1/2 hours. We were all pretty tired at the end of that adventure. Today  we floated on inner tubes for 2 hours down a slightly different stretch of the river. That was more relaxing but not much. Seth returned home this afternoon and we will hit the road tomorrow. We have a 6 hour drive back to Beaufort.

Habersham

Today is the 3rd of July. We made it home just in time to decorate for the 4th. The trip was 6954 miles in 55 days. We only stayed in 5 state parks which is kinda weird. 2 city parks and 17 commercial parks. We visited 5 National parks and 2 National monuments. Also one driveway, twice. The MP has a couple of issues that I have already made an appointment for. She took some abuse so that's to be expected. Davejennyjournal is going dark for a while. Thanks for logging on. We'll be back.

Okefenokee Pastimes RV park.

This place is near Folkston GA. We are something like 160 miles from Habersham. An easy drive tomorrow. Right across the street from the entrance is a road that leads to The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. We unhooked and drove in there for look around. We hiked one particular trail that struck both of us as sorta funny. In 1891 a deep ditch (12 miles long) was dug in an attempt to "drain the swamp" into the Atlantic ocean. The goal was to make the Cypress and Longleaf pine forests more accessible so that they could be exploited. After 4 years the project was abandoned because the sand banks of the ditch kept collapsing into itself and they ran out of money. Also the CFO of the company had been receiving financial perks and not declaring them on his tax returns. Funny how history repeats itself. That's a mostly true story. Anyway, that will do it for our summer 2021 MP trip. I will put a lid on this trip with a final post after we get home and the dust settles a bit. One more thing. Jenny told me the pic on yesterday's post was confusing. The pics were taken at one of the anchor points of the cell tower, looking up at the cellular antennas.

Hitchingpost Corral & Campground RV Park

This is obviously another commercial campground. There is a big corral here and it's got 2 horses in it. The lady that signed us in was wearing a well broken in pair of cowboy boots. The downside about this place is that if I had a decent rock I could throw it and hit cars on I 10. We'll keep the noisy AC running and with our white noise machine turned up we should be able to block out the truck traffic. There is a cell tower on the property. I've never been up close to one. I took a couple of pics.
