Fairbanks day 1
We got in here pretty early. One thing we didn't take into account is the 4th of July weekend. It took us a while to find a place to park the MP. We wanted to stay in the Denali park after we leave here. They take reservations starting in December for the following year. We will be staying outside the park and we are glad to have found a place. We have booked 2 tours while we are in Fairbanks. Tomorrow is a city tour. We had the oil changed today. We have put 6000 miles on the old girl since we left Beaufort. We have had so many experiences in the last 6 weeks it's difficult to keep them straight. Jenny keeps a daily journal that we refer to frequently. There's no 4th of July fireworks display in Fairbanks because it doesn't get dark enough to see it. Sunset tonight is 12:34.

Back on pavement
We are back on the Alaska highway. We have stopped in the town of Tok, to play with our phones. We might be boondocking tonight so probably no wifi. Should be in Fairbanks tomorrow. I will try and send a SPOT tonight. I'll be sending random pictures that we have been taking for the last 3 weeks.

Chicken Alaska day 2
It started raining yesterday afternoon. We decided we hadn't had time to adequately explore the cultural assets of Chicken, so we signed on for another night. There is only one place in town that has a flush toilet. It is heavily advertised. There is a 4 holer behind 'downtown', called the "poop coop". The Chickenstock music festival brought in 700 music fans, most of them camped in tents behind the stage, reminiscent of the festival's namesake. There are quite a few, for real, gold miners here. Chicken Creek is still producing gold. It was first discovered here in 1890, that's before the Klondike gold rush. Tomorrow we should be able to use our cell phones. The city of, Tok Alaska, is supposed to have coverage. We are headed for Fairbanks but probably won't make it tomorrow.
