Tims Ford SP Tennessee

We had to go around the South side of the Smokies because that's the side Deep Creek is on. We've never done that before. Hwy 74 goes through the Nantahala Gorge and when it enters Tennessee it goes through the Oconee Gorge. The Oconee river is famous for white water. There were a lot of rafters and the water was huge. Unfortunately, I had to keep my eyes on the road so as not to crash. We are close to Lynchburg, the home of Jack Daniels. We have booked an afternoon tour that includes a "tasting". There are some bike trails near here that I might ride tomorrow. Jenny took these pics of the lake and of me blogging. Exciting stuff.

Deep Creek day 2

We started the day with a 2 hour hike, some of it along Deep Creek. The creek is a whitewater tubing destination. There are several companies that rent big tubes. I took a series of pics of a young lady that was running a big drop in the creek. It looked like fun. When the grandkids get alittle older we will have to do it. Lunch was at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. We got to thinking that between rafting, tubing, zip lining, bike riding and beer drinking this part of NC is pretty attractive. We should rent a house or something.

Deep Creek, NC Smokey mountains

We are just outside the park in a commercial campground. I actually booked us in a place about a mile from here by accident. We pulled in here and they didn't have our reservation. I had apparently booked the other place thinking it was this place. Damn internet! The other place was sketchy so we moved back here. Our site is only feet from Deep Creek. It is flowing really good. We did some exploring in the park. We visited the "The road to nowhere". Long story short-The Gubment started building the road-they built a nifty tunnel-WW 2 started-The money and men were needed elsewhere-end road construction. On our way back we did a hike along Nolan creek. I took some pics.

Pat & Steve's day 2

Rain, sun, rain, sun. Luckily the humidity can only get to 100%. We had planned to visit a state park and do a hike today but it's been raining so much for so long that even Trump couldn't drain this swamp. I did a hilly bike ride instead. This pic is of Pat, Jenny and Foxy waiting for the next downpour. The Smokies tomorrow. 

Day 1, Summer 2018 trip

We are spending the first couple of nights with my sister Pat and her husband Steve in the foothills of N Carolina. Our plan for this summer is another trip out west. We will be in Utah and New Mexico primarily. We will be out 2 months, barring any MP failures. We took this pic as we were leaving. Rick and Chris Arkus have sold their house (fingers crossed) and probably won't be living in Habersham when we return. They will be missed. Left field is a lonely place.
