White Bison day 3

OK, it's late. We were full speed ahead all day. All I'm going to do today is post a few pictures. Tomorrow is going to be equally busy. Fun busy.

White Bison day 2

The mob arrived safely in Las Vegas. They will drive over here tomorrow. It's alittle over 2 hours. Jenny and I drove uphill for 45 minutes to a lake at 8000 feet called Kolob Reservoir. The scenery was great and the temps were 25° lower up there. The lake is not in the park but we were in and out of the park on the way up. We have some plans for the next few days. We'll see how it goes.

White Bison RV resort Virgin Ut.

This place is a work in progress. The RV part of the resort will need  another few years before the newly planted trees provide any shade. On top of that there are no sewer hook-ups, no showers, no pool and the forecast for our time here is for 110+ afternoon temps. It is July in Southern Utah, so hot is to be expected, but this is somewhat excessive. The kids fly into Vegas tomorrow where record temps of 117° will greet them. Yikes! The pic I took out the window was of a traffic slow down after we entered  Zion NP. We had to drive through the park to get here. There are ALOT of people here. This is the tail end of the 4th of July holiday so we are hoping some of the riff raff working chumps will get back in their pickups and skedaddle. The kids arrive here on Monday and we will hit the ground running. They will be staying in the Glamping side of the resort in TeePees. I'll send some pictures of those things tomorrow if I don't turn into a raisin. That other pic I took this morning
is of our site in Kanab. The morning sun was alittle different. Jenny wants to enter us in the annual Travel Van photo contest so she has been looking for photo ops that might get us into the magazine. More tomorrow (here's hoping)

Best Friends Day 2

Today was mostly spent roaming around the Best friends property. It's a pretty big place (3700 acres) It butts up against 30,000 acres of BLM land. We did a hike that was recommended to us at the visitors center that ended at a cave that was full of water. After that we drove around, mostly lost, for quite awhile. The entire facility is superbly well done. They have a Pet Cemetery with awe inspiring views and inspirational sayings on small plaques that will make you cry. Not me, of course, but probably you. We took too many pics. I am posting a few of them.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

We are in Kanab Utah. We have visited Best Friends several times now. Their
campground is primo and stopping here puts us less than 50 miles from Zion. Our route today took us through Page AZ. We stopped at the visitors center parking lot for The Glen Canyon Dam so that we could make lunch. We took a few pics. Everyone has enjoyed Houseboating on Lake Powell especially when there is water in the lake. It doesn't appear to have much at the moment. We are here all day tomorrow.

Lyman Lake day 2

There is a 90 room ancient Pueblo in this park. At least the information we read says that. Right now the Pueblo is several big piles of rocks. It was apparently occupied from 13 to 1400. The residents of that community did what we always seem to do. Graffiti. There is a trail here that goes by a few of the petroglyphs. They were all pretty faint. On a different topic: We drove into town this morning (St John). We visited a drug store that was also an ACE hardware store and we ate lunch at a gas station that was also a Mexican restaurant. That's multitasking. We should be in Utah tomorrow. Check the high temps in Kanab. It's pretty impressive.

Lyman Lake SP Arizona

Just a quick post. We had to drive into the boonies to get a signal. Our drive took us through  El Malpais National Monument. Malpais means something like "badlands" in Spanish. It's a humongous lava field. Anyway it was a very scenic drive. We pulled over and did a short hike to an arch which you might be able to see in a couple of the pictures if you use your imagination. We ate lunch in a tiny town. The food truck was the only option. There are a few things to do here so we might do some of them tomorrow.
