I'm not exactly sure where this place is. One drawback of navigating with a GPS is that you don't have to look at a map. We got here too early to get into the campsite so we left the MP in the parking lot and drove into town in the Forester. The town is Sebring. Do you know where Sebring is? Me neither. It has a Mexican restaurant and a Walmart. We spent money at both places. After unloading the groceries I did a bike ride. Highlands Hammock was built by the CCC in the early 30s. It was Florida's 1st State Park. A Hammock is a forest of broadleaf trees surrounded by pinelands or marshes. A Hammock is occasionally inundated with water. Pine trees cannot survive that, so there are very few pine trees in a Hammock. Did you know that a Live Oak can survive with its roots under water for up to 4 months. It's true. Most trees in a Hammock are Live Oaks or Palms. We are only here for 1 night.
Interesting botany lesson Dave
