Valley of Fires NRA New Mexico

We are in the center of the state near the small town of Carrizozo. The campground is located on the edge of a 127 sq. mile lava flow. It is 44 miles long, 5 miles wide  and averages 45 feet deep. When we got here the weather was looking scary. We poked around a bit but then ducked in the MP to avoid getting wet. Turns out we just got sprinkled on. The weather has settled down so we'll eat an early dinner and do the trail. We'll move again tomorrow and probably stay a night in the Guadalupe Mountains NP parking lot/campground.

  2. That is what we get, afternoon storms, but past few days it only sprinkled, hope you got your hike in! The onslaught has hit three g grand kids and two adults. It has been wild, I’m a little tired just from chole being here as past two days we took rides on trails as they were open. Today a shorter ride and I think mothers are going antique shopping, then swimming sometime today. Probably out to equestrian center for the jumping. Chole and I went yesterday and saw the air dogs, then watched some of the pony club jumping. It was fun, but hot, I got a little sunburned, as I forgot my hat! Hope you all have a nice day.
